We’re conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.
On 25 and more
Yesterday, I turned 25. It started off as a low-key birthday with Thai brunch at Bangkok2 in Manhattan. Good brunch, good company.
The rest of the day was spent doing laundry, reading Paul Carr’s book. Low-key, really.
Then, my brother and I made plans for dinner. We wanted sushi. Apparently that wasn’t available. Fair enough, so we settled for Italian.
Got dressed, took another shower and then hit the town. Dinner first, party later.
Arrived at Caffe Linda and that’s where things turned awesome-er.
Sitting at a table were 2 of my friends. I thought random coincidence and proceeded to find a separate table for 2. When I got funny looks from my brother and friend, it turned out that they were there for me!
Shortly after, 3 other friends showed up for dinner. Drinks, dinner and another surprise - dessert cake with a single candle.
I was already excited about the night, given that we had rented an entire club to celebrate my birthday with a few other good people, but this really impressed me quite a bit.
Another beer later, we walked into Lexicon where the party was getting started. We danced the night away, had a few too many drinks and partied like rock stars. It’s always a great night when you don’t remember getting home and waking up in a suit. Good times.
But, with that out of the way, it’s time to discuss what’s next. Fortunately, my globe trotting and party lifestyle isn’t going to change. It will probably get more awesome as time progresses.
On a recent trip to Singapore, I traveled with a friend of mine and my goal - for her - was to make sure she experienced more ‘firsts’ in those 2 days that most people will ever do in 2 years. And, I’m pretty sure it was succesful.
And that’s what I’m going after — experiences over things. People over all.
When was the last time you did something for the first time? If you don’t remember, you need to step it up and go live. For one moment, forget what you know and just go experience life. From a former-serious person — it’s worth it.

Apple’s newest board member, Disney CEO Bob Iger, just bought $1 million worth of shares on the open market.
Sure, perhaps not much for him in the grand scheme of things. But a million dollars is still a million dollars. And he’s clearly sending a message. Likely a smart one.
